Cerenia® (maropitant citrate) Cerenia is the first FDA-approved veterinary antiemetic.
Dogs: Cerenia (maropitant citrate) Injectable Solution is indicated for the prevention and treatment of acute vomiting in dogs and for the prevention of vomiting caused by emetogenic or chemotherapeutic agents. Cats: Cerenia Injectable Solution is indicated for the treatment of vomiting in cats.
Dosage and administration Cerenia Injectable Solution Dogs For acute vomiting prevention in dogs 2-4 months of age: Administer subcutaneously at 1 mg/kg equal to 0.1 mL/kg of body weight once daily for up to 5 consecutive days For acute vomiting prevention in dogs 4 months of age and older: Administer intravenously over 1-2 minutes or subcutaneously at 1 mg/kg equal to 0.1 mL/kg of body weight once daily for up to 5 consecutive days For prevention of vomiting caused by emetogenic medications or chemotherapeutic agents in dogs 4 months of age and older: Administer intravenously over 1-2 minutes or subcutaneously at 1 mg/kg of body weight one time, 45-60 minutes prior to use of emetogenic or chemotherapeutic agents Cats For treatment of vomiting in cats 4 months of age and older: Administer intravenously over 1-2 minutes or subcutaneously at 1 mg/kg equal to 0.1 mL/kg of body weight once daily for up to 5 consecutive days Bioequivalence has been established for a single intravenous or subcutaneous dose (1 mg/kg) of Cerenia in dogs and cats Time to reach peak plasma concentration is quick, with an average of 30 minutes for dogs and 20 minutes for cats
